Sermon by Pastor Jess McCurnin
A Mother’s Day Message highlighting the mother of Moses, Jocehbed, in the Book of Exodus 2:1.
Context: Before Moses’ birth, he begins with mentioning the marriage between his mother and father.
Point #1:
Marriage is between a man and a woman. It’s God’s creation and his intentions for his people.
“The man should leave his father and mother and cleave to his wife.”
Jesus says,
“Two should become one. Let not man separate what God has put together.”
Mark 10:9
A man of the house of Levi went and “took as wife” a daughter of Levi. (Notice they’re not unequally yoked. Christians should marry Christians.)
Also notice the initiator is the man of the house of Levi. Men should pursue the women, not women pursuing the men.
Point # 2:
“Children are a heritage to the Lord.”
Psalm 127:3-5
Notice in Verse 2: Out of the marriage union of Verse 1, a baby has come forth. (That’s God’s best way.)
“Before the Child is the Age of 7, teach them all the ways of Heaven.”

Reason: missed the mark on linking typology of Christ and Moses’ plight.
We all know that Jesus was the true and better Moses and God gave up his son to die for our sins but what many times we don’t think about the typology illustrated in the reality that Jesus existing as the Creator from the beginning of Creation, left his original place of honor as Prince to the Throne of Heaven to enter into a foreign land filled with his enemies who killing children under 2 years old and entered into a land and a people that rejected him, abused him and accused him, yet he endured this pain to save his people and lead them back to the Promised Land of Heaven.
